Lady Leafs are Limestone champs

The Lady Leafs battled Rock Falls and won the Limestone Invitational tournament title.

Rock Falls at Geneseo

The Lady Leafs suffered a tough defeat to the Lady Rockets 26-24, 29-27 in Geneseo on Aug. 30.

The Lady Leafs’ Abbi Barickman played well in her first game action of the season finishing with six kills and four digs.

Geneseo’s Hannah Himmelman tallied three kills, and Alex Horne finished with two kills and five blocks.

The Leafs’ Emily Pobanz did a little bit of everything with two kills, three digs and a block.

Maddi Barickman kept the offense moving with 17 assists, two kills and an ace.

Geneseo had no shortage of defense with four players finishing with double-digit dig totals.

Elli Weller tallied 15 digs and added an ace, and Maggi Weller finished with 12 digs and an ace.

Geneseo’s Rachel Daniels added 12 digs, and Keeli Frerichs finished with 11 digs and an ace.

Limestone Invitational

The Lady Leafs swept the field to earn the tournament title and Maggi Weller and Maddi Barickman were named the All-Tournament Team on Sept. 1.

Geneseo’s toughest competition came against host Limestone battling for a three-set victory earning a 26-24, 17-25 and 15-7.

Geneseo finished with victories over Monmouth Roseville (25-22, 25-12), and fought for a 21-25, 25-22, 15-11 victory over Elmwood to advance to the semifinal match.

The Lady Leafs defeated Bradley-Bourbonnais 25-23, 25-22 to advance to the championship match against Limestone.

Geneseo locked up the title with a 25-15, 25-22 victory.

Maggi Weller finished the tournament with eight aces and 57 digs, while Maddi Barickman tallied four aces, seven kills, seven blocks, 96 assists and 48 digs.

The Leafs’ Hannah Himmelman finished with six aces, 23 kills, 12 blocks and 13 digs, and Elli Weller added two aces, two kills and 31 digs.

Abbi Barickman made an impact on offense with 35 kills, six digs and a block, and Emily Pobanz finished with 22 kills, two blocks and 12 digs.

Keeli Frerichs tallied 42 digs and two aces, and Alex Horne finished with 18 kills and eight blocks.

Hannah Adams contributed a little bit everywhere tallying 23 assists, 17 digs, four aces, five kills, 23 assists and a block.

The Lady Leafs will host of the Geneseo Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 8.

Geneseo’s first game of pool play will be agianst Kewanee at 9 a.m.
