Moline too much for Maple Leafs

The Maroons turned the tide against the Maple Leafs, and Geneseo took down Burlington Central.

Geneseo at Moline

The Maple Leafs won four of the first five matches, but the Maroons finished with a flurry of four consecutive pins to defeat Geneseo 48-23.

With the match starting at 170-pounds, Geneseo was able to build a 20-4 advantage at Wharton Field House in Moline on Dec. 7.

The Leafs’ Ethan Kennedy opened the meet with a 9-0 win by decision at 170-pounds.

Geneseo’s Jordan Jackson finished the 182-pound match with a pin in 1:31.

Zach Humphrey continued to build on his great start to the season with a pin in 1:15 at 220 pounds for the Leafs.

Geneseo’s Sam Thomas picked up a 9-0 major decision at 285 pounds.

However, Moline took control of the match at the lower weights winning eight consecutive matches.

The Leafs’ Logan Weber earned a 2-1 victory by decision at 160 pounds to finish the meet.

Geneseo at Burlington Central The Maple Leafs earned a solid 53-28 victory over Burlington Central on Dec. 10.

Thomas won the 285-pound match with a pin in 1:02, and Jackson picked up a pin at 182-pounds in a 1:04.

Kennedy won the 170-pound match by technical fall with a 16-0 decision.

Geneseo’s next competition will be at the Hinsdale Tournament at Hinsdale Central High School on Saturday, Dec. 17 at 4:30 p.m.
