CHAMPAIGN -- Former Ohio assistant Dustin Ford will be named an assistant coach soon, a source said Wednesday.

Ford, the younger brother of Bradley coach Geno Ford, was expected to be the top inside candidate for the Ohio job vacated by Illini coach John Groce. But Ohio announced the hiring of former TCU coach Jim Christian on Tuesday.

Former Ohio assistant Jamall Walker's appearance on campus became known Monday. Groce didn't want to rush the hiring process, but the Illini want to get a staff in place with spring recruiting already in gear. The spring signing period starts Wednesday. The Illini host a visit with Chicago Simeon's Kendrick Nunn on Thursday.

The Illini have one slot open for a full-time assistant coach.
